Hey Peg, you could refer to them as boxes, as all the notes in a pattern typically fit inside of a box shape.

Hey John, for the song tutorials, this is as close as I get, so you can see the chords and strum pattern.
In the beginner course, I give closer detail and explanation for the 18 basic chords from the chord family cheat sheet. -
