Hey Ken, your first introduction to the guitar sounds a lot like my story.
Now is your time to finally learn! You can do it! Put in that practice time, a little each day, and whatever you do, don’t give up. It’s going to get hard and frustrating. Your fingers will be soar and other things will come up. But don’t give up and you will make it, no doubt!
Maybe pick a particular song you want to play, and where or for whom you will play it, and when, some date in the future. This will give you a clear goal to shoot for.You never fail until you quit!

I bought my first guitar at the age of 15. I taught myself a few chords and that’s as far as I went–no lessons for me either.
I am so excited at my age to finally learn to play and to play well. I know that it is going to be a process and require much work, but I do believe it will be well worth it.
