Jonathan replied to the topic chord charts in the forum Questions & Struggles 2 years, 10 months ago
Hey Sharon, yes, the superscripts that say 1/2 mean that you should land on the next chord on beat 3 in 4/4 time.
If a song has more than 1 page, I will usually put both pages side by side on a stand, so I dont have to turn pages in the middle of playing.
Those are good points about heading and page numbers. Thanks for the input. For now, you can write them in manually. -

Hello Sharon, you can find out more about the features of music notes pro at the link below. Just be aware that the pro version will not give you free copies of chord charts. It will only give you discounts, so it depends on how much you plan on using it.

Jonathan replied to the topic Wondering (worrying, actually) about left thumb position in the forum Questions & Struggles 2 years, 11 months ago
Hi Susan, for the most part, my thumb is not placed on the back of the neck. But rather, my thumb is loose, and sometimes used to mute the low E string by just touching it slightly. So in general, the neck of the guitar is in the crook of my hand. But, in the E chord family, when I’m playing the Bsus4 and C#m7, I place my thumb against the back of the neck, because it allows me to get the…Read More

Jonathan replied to the topic Not able to memorize the verses of a Song in the forum Questions & Struggles 2 years, 11 months ago
Hey Ike, I also struggle with memorizing songs, and I always read from a chord chart. Even when playing in front of people in a small group I’ll pull up the song chord chart on my phone. So don’t feel bad. It’s totally ok.

Hey Ken, your first introduction to the guitar sounds a lot like my story.
Now is your time to finally learn! You can do it! Put in that practice time, a little each day, and whatever you do, don’t give up. It’s going to get hard and frustrating. Your fingers will be soar and other things will come up. But don’t give up and you will make it, no doubt!
Maybe pick a particular song you want…Read More -

Hey Gloria, glad to hear you are enjoying the course so far. I’ll definitely check it out and add it to my list of songs to draw from for future lessons. Thanks for the suggestion.

Jonathan replied to the topic Slower Version of Joy to the World in the forum Questions & Struggles 2 years, 11 months ago
Hey Sheila, in the 7 Day Song Challenge section, there’s no slower version of those songs. But, all the songs in my song library can actually be slowed down. While watching any song from the song library, you can click the gear icon in the bottom right corner, and then you will see a playback speed option that you can change to make the playback slower.
So, if you want, you can find “joy…Read More

Jonathan replied to the topic Struggling with Am7 in the forum Questions & Struggles 2 years, 11 months ago
Hey Sheila, this will be the hardest chord to get right in the G chord family. Just keep at the muscle memory practice, going real slow, and moving your finger out of the way with your right hand if you have to. The muscles in your finger will learn to get to the new position on their own after a while, but they need time.
You can also try to play the Am7 without your pinky down, just…Read More

Jonathan replied to the topic Mute finger for Bsus, C#m in the forum Questions & Struggles 2 years, 11 months ago
Hey John, yes, that’s what I do. I let my middle finger (finger 2) touch the low E string to mute it. You don’t have to. You can just avoid hitting it with your strumming hand, but for faster songs, this can be pretty tough.

Jonathan replied to the topic Why is the course page saying I didn't progress? in the forum Questions & Struggles 2 years, 11 months ago
Hey John, that’s interesting. Did you double check that all the buttons are marked complete in the introduction and bonus sections as well? Because they also have complete buttons. Let me know.

Hello Sheila, there should be a button at the bottom of each lesson that looks like this…
It says “Mark As Complete”. It’s an orange button way at the bottom. If you don’t see it, please send me a screenshot here or through email, so I can see what you’re looking at.
