Jonathan

  • Hey Jonathan,

The new format looks to be jam-packed with information.  I realize your hard work and moves to perfect your curriculum and strategies to share about guitar; playing, picking, strumming, chords, rhythms, song progression, etc., etc.  At the development stage of guitar playing I am currently in, I say that these changes would explain more than the previous examples I have u…Read More

    Hello Ann,

I just wanted to give you a confidence boost!  You send such wonderful messages, and definitely show your love of music and the Lord God throughout.  I believe you can meet your goals and surpass them.  Learning doesn’t stop because you retire, and you are proving a whole bunch of nay-sayers how wrong they are!

    Keep on pickin’

    Cheryl

  • Hi Jonathan, I am working on I hope You Dance by Lee Ann Womack . Is there any way you can add an audio of F/C to the new chord library. I know I’m not getting it right but id like to know what i’m shooting for lol

Also, I don’t know if it’s possible but I would love it if you could put Walk Forever by My Side by The Alarm in the song library.

    Thanks!!

    Adela

Hello, my name is Ann Hepner and I am originally from the Western New York area (near Buffalo). I retired last year and moved to Florida to be nearer to my family.
I’ve always wanted to learn how to play guitar but never really had the time to put into it. Not long after I retired I bought a guitar and found Jonathan’s course. To be honest I was hesitant to try because I felt that bec…Read More

    Welcome Pam
You are a busy lady! You have come to the right place to begin to learn how to play the guitar. This is an incredibly supportive group and you couldn’t ask for a more approachable and helpful teacher than Jonathan.
All the best to you. Ann

@gadget84 phone metronome app – check! It did help, thank you so much!!!

@pambie43 Welcome!, and get ready to make music with the guitar. Jonathan is great, and the course is easy and at your own pace. Use the communities – we’re all family here, so ask or share anything concerning your guitar journey!

  • Hey Paul,

Just curious, as I am a beginner and I have some issues too;  what helped me was to use a metronome app on my cell phone.  I made it really slow (around 60 beats).  I kept short practice sessions, until I could do my strum pattern well.  Then I moved the speed up by 2 beats per minute, and repeated my practice sessions until I felt proficient at it.  It also helped me when I wa…Read More

  • This is great, thanks for covering this Jonathan! Also thanks for always recording the sessions for those of use who cannot attend.

I retired from the military and am a casual guitar player. I am active in my local church and want to learn to play and sing a few gospel songs and perform them on Sundays. I’m not very good, but I try. With the help of the Lord, I’ll improve.

  • Hi.   With the change to this site, I’m not finding how to update my course progress. Can you help?  TX

  • I constantly struggle with rhythm of strum patterns. Any one have any tricks that help them?

My name is Paul. I started playing about a year ago. I enjoy all types of music.

I’d like to suggest “Take Me Out to the Dancehall” by Pat Green.

Yes, I’m all over the place with my music interests, but this one sounds fun for guitar.

  • I have a very broad and varied taste in music and a very appreciative ear to anyone who makes music.  It was very difficult for me to find just one to suggest, when there are so many amazing songs.

I would like to try “You Needed Me” written by Randy Goodrum and famously sung by Anne Murray.  I do have the sheet music, if required.

I appreciate the opportunity and any feedback.

  • Wow!  Awesome goal and motivational story!  I really appreciate your sharing it.  Especially the new guitar purchase, as I have just put a layaway on an Eastman guitar.  It felt just right in my hands, and my ears were pleasantly filled with some amazing sounds.  I can hardly wait to get it!  I didn’t let my eyes pick my new guitar, I let my hands and my ears.  It could have looked like a…Read More
