Thanks for those suggestions. I'm constantly tweaking the way I make the tutorials to make them more useful. Strumming patterns has definitely been a question I get a lot, so most of my more current tutorials, I go over the strumming in detail. I may devote an episode completely to strumming and finding strumming patterns for songs in general. That's a good topic.

Thanks Jonathan! This breakdown helps a lot as I've been introduced to the concepts of beats and how it relates to strumming. I personally think it would enrich your videos if you add this information for future tutorials (just my opinion of course). Or perhaps a great tutorial is how to take a song, look at a tab sheet (like those found in guitar tabs) and apply a strumming pattern to it? Or is that too advanced? Anyway just thoughts. Thanks again and I'll try my best to learn this song cause it's one of my favourites!

Hey man, thanks for the kind words!
The strum pattern I'm playing on this tutorial is a bit complicated and would be hard to follow to the T because I wasn't exactly consistent throughout the song. (it's one of the first tutorials I recorded). But if you're just learning the guitar, there's a much simpler strum pattern you can use. This song is in 4/4 time, meaning there are 4 beats per measure. So if we break the strum pattern down into those 4 beats, you can strum down for each beat with an upstrum at the very end of the measure to repeat. It would look like this: D / D / D / D U
For something similar, you can check out the strum pattern for this tutorial on "in the air tonight". The only difference is this strum pattern has 2 strums per beat instead of 1, so its 8 downstrums and then the upstrum at the end. You would just break that in half to use for "Lord I Need You". That's a much easier strum pattern to learn and play with. Once you get comfortable with that, you can always use other strum patterns later. I hope that all makes sense and is helpful. Good luck!

Hi Jonathan! My first time leaving a comment and I must commend you for making these videos and helping me (a beginner) learn to play a guitar. Would it be possible for you to break down your strumming pattern for this song? Right now I'm learning by ear and sometimes I have a hard time figuring this bit out. Thanks and looking forward to hearing from you!
