Hey Tracy, yea, Blessed Be Your Name is a bit fast and the melody is off beat a bit from the rhythm, so it may be a bit hard to follow for a first song trying to tackle the pattern. If I were you, I’d try out one of the songs in the 7 day song challenge section. All 4 of those use the driving pattern and they are much simpler in terms of structure. It will probably help you wrap your mind…Read More

@tr7thday Ha ha,.I relate to that. But i found a solution. I found that when I try to watch Jonathan;s video and try to keep pace, I fail. Instead, I learn the strumming pattern and then just look at the chord sheets and sing it in my own pace. then I strum in my own pace. Try that.

Everything seemed good until I started practicing my first song (Blessed Be Your Name) and then it seemed like even in the Slow Motion Version Jonathan’s strumming hand was going so much faster than in his tutorial. I was lost. I couldn’t hear the pattern that seemed so obvious in the tutorial.

I love this song, I sing it my head since I’ve heard it recently. However, I have real trouble voicing some parts of it while accompanying myself, in particular the E on the word “raise” in the chorus. I am supposed to play a D chord at the same time, and I invariably sing either a D or (probably) an F#, taking my cue from the chord I am playing.
What is an E doing anyway on the top of a…Read More

Hi Jennifer,
When I first started the program, I found the suggestions in the ‘Strum Pattern Practice’ (in the ‘7 Day Song Practice Guide’) of muting all the strings to be essential (SP1, SP2, and SP3). When watching the videos, I try to emulate Jonathan’s strumming hand paying close attention to the details. Once I feel my strumming hand is in sync with the video, then I play the strum…Read More

Hey there
I found the strum pattern guide in the 7 day challenge super helpful. Do you use it moving onto other songs. I’m finding the level 1 song harder to follow with out it.

AAh, now I get it. Thanks

oh, I see. Yes, the 4th fret pressed down on the G string would be a B note. The G# note shows up with your pinky on the 6th fret of the D string.

The the 4th fret on the G string is B. Unless you bar it there is not a G# in the shape or am I missing something ?

Hey Martin, I don’t understand your question. Can you clarify a bit?
In general, all these chords are not barred. They are called power chords and are an alternative to barre chords. But you need to avoid strumming the low E string

In lesson 4 as illustrated the 1 is B not G# ? Should it be played as a bare cord ?

Not much new here. Still practicing, completed the required lessons including the bonus session. Not sure what to do next except practice . I have a ‘Beat Buddy’ (personal drummer) it also has a metronome which helps with my timing and makes playing by yourself more enjoyable. Lex
